Archived News - 2007Clark & Vieweger Present at 2007 Reebok Foam SeminarMansfield, Texas, October 15, 2007 - Chemguard Vice President of Chemical R&D Dr. Kirtland Clark, Ph.D., and Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Vieweger presented papers at the third annual Reebok Foam Seminar in Bolton, England, this fall. In “Large Area Storage Tank Fires Require Strong AR-AFFF Agents as Defined by LASTFIRE,” Dr. Clark provided an overview of the requirements for large area storage tank fires and the need for efficient foam products to successfully extinguish them. He also discussed the recent invention of a patented Chemguard AR-AFFF blend that incorporates a high-molecular-weight fluoropolymer to achieve excellent results at very low fluorine content. Vieweger’s “Ethanol/Ethanol Blended Fuels: What Does This Mean to the Fire Service” addressed the ever-changing fire extinguishment requirements of fuel-loading depots resulting from the growing use of ethanol-blended fuels and bio-diesel fuel. He pointed out that aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) may not be effective on ethanol and ethanol-blended fuels, which could require an alcohol-resistant aqueous film-forming foam (AR-AFFF) and possibly different application devices and equipment. Vieweger reviewed the changes that may be needed to ensure that loading terminals are equipped with the fire-suppression foam and fire-fighting equipment appropriate for the fuels and fuel blends they must handle. Chemguard is a global, full-service, ISO 9001:2000 Certified manufacturer of fire suppression foams, equipment, and systems; specialty pumps; and fluorosurfactant specialty chemicals.
