Archived News - 2007Gilbert Gives Presentation on Telomer-Based Fluorosurfactants at Western Coatings ShowMansfield, Texas, December 3, 2007 – Chemguard Specialty Chemicals Senior Manager Bob Gilbert presented "Environmental Status and Use of Telomer Based Fluorosurfactants" at the 28th Biennial Western Coatings Societies Symposium & Show in Las Vegas in October. Gilbert discussed the alternatives in fluorosurfactant uses since the discontinuation of products based on perfluorooctyl sulfonate (PFOS). In particular, he noted the advantages of fluorosurfactants over hydrocarbon-based surfactants in lowering surface tension. Gilbert also reviewed the requirements for the new European Union (EU) Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), which went into effect June 1. Gilbert emphasized that REACH can affect North American companies, even if they are not shipping directly into the EU. The annual Western Coatings Show provides coatings professionals with technical, environmental, and managerial information pertinent to the coatings marketplace. The show enjoyed record attendance this year, with more than 1,000 visitors. Surface Tension Comparisons
